Meet the Leadership Team
Leader (Minister non-accredited) Church Secretary & Trustee
Sharon Petchey
Sharon moved to the Bibury area in 2010 after re-marrying, and while seeking a new church home, she stumbled across Arlington Baptist Church. From the moment she stepped through the door, she was deeply touched by the warmth and hospitality of this small, close-knit congregation. The church community not only welcomed her spiritually but also helped her feel a true sense of belonging in village life.
Inspired and encouraged by the fellowship, Sharon explored her faith more deeply and made the decision to be baptised in the River Coln in the beautiful village of Bibury. This significant step marked the beginning of her journey into ministry.
Shortly after, under the guidance of Rev. Matt Frost (Minister at Cirencester), Sharon was invited to undertake a leadership training course, which she completed in 2019 with the full support of the church. Since then, she has continued to grow in faith and leadership.
While not a formally accredited Baptist minister, Sharon now faithfully serves as our non-accredited Minister, leading the church with dedication, compassion, and a heart for both pastoral care and community outreach.
Trustee
Jean Stringer
Jean is not only our longest-standing member, but also one of our most beloved and treasured pillars of Arlington Baptist Church. She began worshipping here at just 12 years old, alongside her family, and has faithfully remained part of the church ever since.
In 1952, Jean married her beloved Reg right here in the chapel—a deeply meaningful moment that marked the beginning of a family life grounded in Christian faith. She has lovingly raised her children in the ways of the Lord and rejoices in seeing many of them come to know and cherish their own relationship with Jesus, inspired by her steadfast example.
Throughout the decades, Jean has worn many hats within the church family. From serving as Treasurer for many years to leading Ladies Fellowship, teaching in Sunday School, serving as a Deacon, and organising countless events—Jean’s contributions are both vast and invaluable.
Her legendary hospitality and home-cooked meals have blessed countless gatherings. In fact, Jean’s cooking is fondly remembered and celebrated at both church and village events—a true expression of love served on a plate.
Jean's faith, warmth, and lifetime of service continue to inspire generations within our church community.
Treasurer & Trustee
Zena Sparks
Zena moved to the picturesque village of Bibury in October 2014, bringing her teenage son, Morley, with her. From the moment she arrived, Zena was welcomed into a community that was not only warm and friendly but also deeply rooted in a sense of connection and belonging. She quickly found many new friendships in the area, and with her commitment to her Christian faith, she knew she needed to find a church that shared her values.
That’s when she discovered Arlington Baptist Church, a place that immediately felt like home. She has worshipped here ever since, embracing the fellowship of her church family and finding strength in the spirit-filled services. Zena’s involvement with the church has grown, and in 2019, she took on the important role of Treasurer, where she continues to serve with dedication and care.
Zena says, “I find our church to be a Spirit-filled place and a constant encouragement to me on my Christian journey.”
Her faith, commitment, and passion for service continue to be a blessing to all who know her at Arlington Baptist Church.
